The Rio Blanco (de San Carlos) is a nature experience, not a whitewater experience. The river meanders slowly through the San Carlos plains, passing many an iguana, caiman, parrots, egrets, herons and all sorts of monkeys. The river is pretty slow, and suitable for even the most inexperienced paddlers. There are quite a few downed trees in the river, but it is slow moving with little gradient, making it easy to miss them. Some photos of the canyon...

Small cascade a mile or so down.
Typical jungle scenery.
Iguanas sunning themselves on the beach.
The jungle spills out into the river in many places, making ideal hiding for birds and caiman.
Cuadrado and guests chasing egrets (notice swarm of birds flying away)
Picturesque Volcan Arenal from the takeout.
